The Nasopharyngeal Swab is a medical device designed for the collection of samples from the posterior regions of the nose and throat. It consists of a slender, flexible stick with a soft swab attached at one end. The procedure involves gently inserting the swab through one of the nostrils and maneuvering it through the nasal cavity until it reaches the nasopharynx, which is the upper part of the throat connected to the back of the nasal cavity. Once properly positioned, the swab is rotated several times to gather a sample of secretions from the nasopharynx. Subsequently, the swab is cautiously withdrawn and placed in a sterile container, ensuring its preservation and integrity during transportation to a laboratory for testing.
